About BCSM

Bangladesh Civil Society for Migrants (BCSM) is a platform of academics and researchers, migrant rights, human rights and women’s rights associations, Diaspora groups, NGOs, the private sector, trade unions and the media of Bangladesh that collectively works to promote rights of migrant workers both at home and abroad. In 2016 when Bangladesh agreed to host the 9th GFMD, civil society organizations of the country formed a platform called Bangladesh Civil Society Coordination Committee for Global Forum on Migration and Development (BCSCC). This platform played a key role in placing the rights agenda in the official discussions of GFMD. After successful completion of the Peoples’ Global Action (PGA) on Migration, Development and Human Rights and GFMD, the member organisations of BCSCC decided to continue with the partnership at a meeting held on 23 January, 2017. At the meeting BCSCC was transformed into Bangladesh Civil Society for Migrants (BCSM). Along with pursuing its work on GFMD and PGA, the BCSM expanded its scope to address the emerging challenges of migration. Later, the platform was named as ‘Bangladesh Civil Society for Migrants’. BCSM contributes to issue-based national, regional and international advocacy, migrants-focused survey, policy influence, intervention in legal framework to protect the rights of migrant workers and their families.
