Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK)

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), is a national legal aid and human rights organisation. ASK was established by prominent Bangladeshi lawyers and activists in 1986. It provides legal and social support to the disempowered, particularly women, working children and workers. ASK has also provided legal support and assistance to migrant workers who had sought for. ASK’s goal is to create a society based on equality, secularism, social and gender justice and rule of law. It seeks to create an environment for accountability and transparency of governance institutions.

ASK thrives to protect and promote human rights of the disempowered and disadvantaged people through community activism and social mobilization, capacity building, legal services, advocacy and policy intervention, by using rights-based approach that encompasses the principles of human rights, equality, equity, secularism, rule of law, social justice and democracy. ASK’s strategies for promotion and protection of human rights are carried out by 17 units and one component to create awareness, provide legal and social support, monitor institutional transparency, campaign and advocacy for law and policy reform.

ASK conducts its programmes outside Dhaka with 20 key partner NGOs and CBOs (Gender & Social Justice, Outreach and Child Rights Programme), 52 Schools (BNAD) and 11 Human Rights Defenders Forum (HRDF).
