International Migrant Alliance (IMA)

International Migrant Alliance (IMA) is an organization, registered under the Societies Act XXI of 1860 Bangladesh Government. IMA is devoted to promote, protect the rights and welfare of migrant workers. It has also successfully handled a huge number of cases of migrant workers cheated, abused, tortured, arrested, and detained and died in home and abroad. IMA is the pioneer in Bangladesh to support victims through arbitration.

Bearing the ethos of moving towards action that brings change and solution in migration problems across the world. In 2007 IMA was initiated by a group of female migrant workers who were cheated and trafficked in the name of labor migration by the recruiting agencies. Upon safely arrived back in Bangladesh, they filed a test case with the ministry against recruiting agents and judgment was given in favor of the workers. The success gave them the strength to form a platform in order to help other adversity migrant workers.

The vision of the organization is step it up for Dignity, Rights, and Development of all forms of migrants at home and abroad. The mission of the organization is to ensure the wellbeing of all migrant workers in the entire phase of migration i. e. GCM.

Objectives and Activities

  • To act as a pressure group for the implementation of existing law and ratification and implementation of all international instruments concerned with the protection and promotion of the rights of all migrants and the members of their families.
  • Provide legal services to the left behind family and other means of overseas migrants.
  • To raise awareness on safe migration and anti-trafficking.
  • Repatriate stranded migrant from abroad
  • Advocacy and lobbying with other national, regional and international concerned stakeholders to develop and implement plans and policies for creating and enabling the environment for the migrants and diaspora.
