INAFI Bangladesh Foundation
International Network of Alternative Financial Institutions (INAFI) is an international network of development practitioners (NGOs and MFIs) with the primary objective to contribute to finding solutions for low-income people by creating effective and efficient access to the alternative financial and non-financial institutions. INAFI Bangladesh is one of the national chapters of INAFI Asia and INAFI International. INAFI formally started working in Bangladesh as NGO Affairs Bureau under the foreign Donation Act 1978 in 2003 with the fundamental view to contributing to the development sector as a whole by adding values through undertaking innovative projects and programmes on capacity building, knowledge-based research, knowledge management, technical assistances and advocacy with the government as well as with different regulatory bodies by building alliances with the local networks and donors. It’s a joint Stock Companies & Firms under the Societies Act XXI of 1860 in 2004.
At present it has 28 member organizations (MOs) including some of the top as well as medium and small MFIs/NGOs in the country. INAFI promotes inclusive development by intervening in the three thematic areas. It includes financial inclusions like Micro-Finance, Micro-Insurance Value chain development and Migration & Remittance. In terms of Social Inclusions they offer Mainstreaming Gender, Empowerment and Poverty Reduction, Migration and Development, Access to Essential Health Services, Awareness Building on HIV-Aids, Awareness on Human Rights. Finally, their work covers the effects climate change on the poor.
