Mr Mohammad Nur Khan

Mr Mohammad Nur Khan has been involved in the Human Rights movement of Bangladesh for the last three decades. He is an active Human Rights Defender and raises his opinions and concerns on Extra-Judicial killings, Enforce Disappearances, Freedom of Expression, Minority Rights, Custodial Torture, and Border Killing, He works in other areas of women rights and other emerging human rights violations issues. Nur Khan is working with the Rohingya community before the influx in 2017; however, his engagement with the community in a personal capacity and the various humanitarian organisations extended since the influx. He works not only to provide humanitarian aids but to ensure the Rohingyas are engaged in raising their concerns with the relevant authority, if needed as well as in dialogue with the host communities. He is an avid advocate in providing formal education to the Rohingya population. He collects information on the human rights violence carried out against Rohingyas, such as rape, custodial tortures, and murders and so on in Rakhine, Myanmar. He is closely associated with the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH) to improve their capacity building so that they can raise their voice. He is one of the founder members of “MAYER DAK” (Mother’s call), an organisation of family members of the victims of enforced disappearances, extra-judicial killings and custodial tortures. Nur Khan is engaged in observing and monitoring closely the religious extremists’ activities for the last two decades. He was the Executive Director (ED, acting) of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) from February 2016-March 2017. He also was the Director of Odhikar from 1997-2000. Mr Mohammad Nur Khan engaged with HRW, UNDP, HD and LAW in gathering information regarding human rights violations on Rohingya Community and voluntarily engaged as an Advisor with Human Rights Support Society(HRSS).
