Sarowat Binte Islam
Sarowat has a long working experience in the development field like partnership management, donor dealings, work closely with respective GOB Departments and Ministries, skill development and capacity building. She has completed Master’s degree in Law (LL.M) from The University of Dhaka and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in “NGO Leadership and Management”. Sarowat enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Bangladesh since 1995 and with the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh since 1997. Sarowat was working with different national and international NGOs since 1996. At present she is working with HELVETAS Swiss Interco operation as Senior Technical Advisor (Migration). Before that she was working with MJF, CIDA, Aparajeyo Bangladesh’ and BLAST. Sarowat has contributed particularly in workers’ rights, migrant workers, anti-trafficking, legal aid, women and child rights issues. She has expertise in project design, implementation, advocating and networking for workers’ rights. She was a member of “Overseas Employment and Migrant Act” drafting Committee formed by the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment in 2010. She has published 3 books- Irregular Labour Migration in Bangladesh: Crises and Ways Forward, Easy version to establish Migrant Workers Rights (Booklet), Easy version of Bangladesh Labour Law (Booklet).
