WARBE Development Foundation
WARBE (The Welfare Association for the Rights of Bangladeshi Emigrants) Development Foundation. WARBE is the brainchild of returnee migrants, committed to carrying out programs and activities for the development and betterment of the migrant community in Bangladesh since 1997.
They are working on Migration and development, migration and human rights, gender and migration, social protection of migrants, remittances good practices, awareness on safe migration, nexus between migration and trafficking, skill development training, ethical recruitment, migrant’s debt mediation, climate change and migration, diaspora, child migration, return & re-integration etc. WARBE DF follows three main approaches to achieve its goal and objectives. Awareness – raise awareness and knowledge sharing about safe migration process as well as migrants’ well-being. Engagement – Network building for collective platform, international engagement for raise migrants’ voice. And Advocacy – grassroots evidence demonstrates at national and international advocacy for ensuring migrants rights and dignity. Working areas are Dhaka, Cumilla, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Keraniganj, Nawabganj, Munshiganj districts.
Through the successful advocacy of WARBE & RMMRU & other partners, Bangladesh Government has ratified 1990 UN Convention without any reservation on April 21, 2011 and Overseas Employment and Migration Act 2013 has enacted on light of the Convention. The successful advocacy government observing nationally the 18 December, International Migrants Day from 2009. Since 1998 WARBE observed the first “18 December” Rally and Human Chain in “Solidarity with Migrant Workers and Members of their Families”. Formation of Parliamentarian Caucus on Migration and Development is one of the biggest achievements of WARBE. WARBE DF is now strengthening BOAF (Bangladesh Ovibashi Adhikar Forum). It has established a Grievance Receiving Center at BMET and appointed a Legal Support Officer and handling different cases.
In the field level, 3 Grievance Mechanism Committees (GMC) have been established to handle cases through social mediation.
